Merry Christmas
We hope you have all had an enjoyable and fulfilling year. We are asking those of you in the community to help make a wonderful Christmas for a family in need. As we look forward to the holidays we are looking at a community that is still struggling to make ends meet. Food insecurity is growing throughout Penticton and the Food Bank Shelves are in a constant state of low supply. This year we would like to provide each of our Adopt-A-Family households with a turkey and food hamper as well as gifts for the children.
The Salvation Army Penticton understands that not all individuals/families can afford to take on this task themselves. We recognize that everyone is feeling the pinch and might not be able to give in he same way as previous years. With that in mind, we are asking families, businesses, groups and individuals to share in the joy of giving and choose what would make sense for their situation. Some examples of this maybe as follows:
- Provide a present for a child. We can give you suggestions from a list that the parent/caregiver has provided.
- Donate a food gift card that can be added to a basket or used to purchase a turkey or other dinner items.
- Donate favorite food items to share with a family ex. European Biscuit tin, Panettone, chocolates or any other items to make a Christmas dinner special.
- Donate a pass for the pool, bowling or Landmark Cinemas for teen gifts.
- Help a young family with diapers. We can provide the sizes that have been requested.
- Donate money towards a family basket and have our "Santa's Helpers" purchase the gifts for you. We can send a photo of what your money was able to buy for a child or family dinner.
- If you would like to Adopt-a-Family as in the past years and purchase gifts and food we will make sure you have as much as information on each child as possible.
In the past years we have been able to partner with Winners in providing undergarments for young girls as well as winter gear for both boys and girls. Allowing them to pick out items themselves with the Salvation Army making the purchase. With donations to this cause the Salvations Army has been able to continue this program throughout the year. If you would like to support this program, please let us know when you make your donation, this is where you would like your funds to be directed.
Please keep in mind that all funds raised in the Kettle Campaign go directly to support the Food Bank.
Adopt-a-Family program is completely funded by your donations and has a zero budget to begin with.
So let us work together and make a local family's Christmas a little extra special!
Thank you for considering this worthy cause.
